SOUTH PADRE ISLAND KITE FESTIVAL – TIE ONE OFF!
At the end of January, South Padre Island has a fantastic kite festival! If you’ve never been to a kite festival, we highly recommend it.
EVENT KICK OFF
The South Padre Kite Festival kicks off at the Convention Center on Thursday night with live performances indoors. If you do want to participate in this part of the festivities you will want to get tickets ahead of time because they sell out fast every year. It’s $10 a person.
OUTDOOR KITE FESTIVAL – FRIDAY AND SATURDAY
Chuck and I had never been to a kite festival before and it was such a fun event. Very relaxing yet entertaining. It was fun watching all the routines that the flyers make up to music. Also interesting how some people tie the big kites to their cars with huge mounting brackets.
WOULD YOU DO IT AGAIN?
This would definitely be something we would do again. So add this one to your bucket list. Grab a lawn chair, head to the flats (right next to the Convention center), and enjoy your time at a festival.
PRO TIP
My pro tip this week would be to not worry about getting to the festival too early. There is plenty of space to find a spot to sit but if you want a front-row seat then get there early. Bring a lawn chair, food, and some beverages
